In a joint venture with another architectural firm (Hnedak Bobo Group), The Horrell Group was commissioned for the design of the 135,000 square feet  Research Building for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The program includes three floors of open-laboratory space with offices, a molecular research center (5,000 s.f.), a multi-suite vivarium with up to BSL2 biocontainment (15,100 s.f.), multiple small public spaces and conference rooms to encourage interaction between the various lines of research. It is the sister building to the adjacent Cancer Research Building, which drove the exterior design (rendering above).
