In the 1979 HGA surveyed the Memphis campus for
exterior access problems and designed remedial work for their correction. This
led in 1997 to another survey dealing with the building entrances, ground floor
and elevator access campus wide. Recently further up-grades covered 13
buildings in the design phase and completed remedial work on 8 of those
buildings. In addition to the accessibility issues everyone usually thinks of (listed below),
wheelchairs and braces, these up-grades included the subtleties of ADA
requirements for the hearing and vision impaired to operate the elevators and
be aware of fire alarm notifications.
restroom compliance (fixture and area requirements)
door compliance (clearances and hardware)
accessible entrances and exits (including accessible routes)
accessible auditorium seating and stage
