project description
The State Building Commission paired our firm with another to design this 101,000 square foot office and research facility. HGA's responsibility was to develop the office space, the laboratory space, and to participate in the exterior design. The four-story building houses researchers and laboratories on each floor, with a rodent facility (8,800 square feet) on the ground floor. Adjacent to the animal facility is a Proteomics Suite with rooms for a deconvolution microscope, a laser scanning confocal microscope, a light microscopy microscope, a fluorescence microscope, and fluorescence activated cell sorter, a mass spec/proteomics core, and connected directly to the animal facility, an in-vivo light imaging system. To prevent light interference, the entrance to the most light sensitive areas is through a three-way revolving darkroom door. The laboratory space is designed to be modified to meet the requirements of future equipment and procedures. The animal facility is a pathogen-free area, specifically designed to exclude external biological contamination.
