After lawsuits brought about by a private citizen, the Department of Justice, which is the enforcer of ADA law, commissioned HGA to conduct ADA audits of approximately thirty McDonald's locations owned by a particular mid-south franchisee. With the consent of the DOJ, HGA was then hired by the same franchisee to review drawings for the remedial work on some of the restaurants as well inspect the finished work. HGA also reviewed the plans for a building prototype replacement design. The following were items included in the audit:

    number of required ADA parking spaces
    accessible routes to entrances and exits
    door hardware and clearances
    restroom fixtures compliance
    accessible routes to restrooms
    countertop heights and reaching distances
